220V AC LED strips connect directly to the mains without an intermediate power supply and allow extensive runs from a single feed point. They operate on alternating current AC voltage, with 220-240V AC input voltage and IP65 IP67 protection grade depending on the model. They are supplied in 20 and 50 metre reels, with SMD2835, SMD2025 and COB versions.

Advantages of 220V AC LED strips over low voltage ones

The rectifier remains integrated in the strip itself, and that removes the junction boxes distributed along the installation. It greatly simplifies the work on extensive perimeters.

No transformer direct connection to the socket

A 220V LED strip with no transformer only needs the connection kit and the socket. By connecting directly to the mains it dispenses with the external driver. COB 220V strips with continuous light and no dots

The COB 220V LED strip flip chip distributes the diodes beneath a continuous phosphor layer and generates no visible dots. The 240 diode reference provides approximately 1120 lumens per metre consuming 10 watts in a 50 metre reel, while the 448 diode version with CRI 92 rises to 14 watts per metre.

The 50 metre 220V LED strip pack is the format for warehouse perimeters and facades. The 20 metre reel fits better on terraces and patios. Each datasheet specifies the range of light emitted in lumens and the energy consumed in watts, information that allows references to be compared objectively. Up to 50 metres on the references prepared for that length and up to 20 metres on the rest. The limit is set by the datasheet. Beyond that point a new line has to be run from the board.

What is the difference between IP65 and IP67 in 220V strips?

IP65 withstands water jets and proves sufficient for humid interiors or covered exteriors, whereas IP67 additionally incorporates temporary immersion and is used outdoors. For facades and gardens the appropriate choice always corresponds to IP67.

Can a 220V LED strip be cut to size?

Yes, along the cut marks that appear every 10 centimetres. Afterwards the cut end has to be sealed with the silicone cap.

Can 220V LED strips be dimmed with a dimmer?

Only the models identified as dimmable, using a Triac dimmer, because an incompatible dimmer provokes perceptible flickering or buzzing. It is worth verifying it on the datasheet before ordering the material.
